Osmosis is the physical phenomenon that causes water to pass "alone" through a semi-permeable membrane from the least concentrated medium to the most concentrated medium and in reverse osmosis pressure is applied to the concentrated medium to make pass water "alone" through the membrane. We act "tangentially". It is only part of the water that passes through the membrane.

Reverse osmosis is a system that purifies water containing materials in solution through a filtering system that only lets water molecules through.
